951 Gaspra is an S-type, or stony asteroid. Approximately 18 km long, it is home to the Space Defense Force's primary base in the Sol System asteroid belt. It is from here that the flagship Paladin bases its operations. The SDF also maintains its premiere microgravity operations academy here, with several structures built to facilitate training in shipboard visit/board/search/seizure operations.

Gaspra and the region of space surrounding it are considered restricted, with elements of the Space Defense Force tasked with preventing the shipyard and its contents from falling into enemy hands.
