tangled_epiphyte_rp_info

This is an informational page to make sure that people who want to roleplay their own scenes in Epiphyte have sufficient OOC knowledge about what was going on during the takeover of Epiphyte in 2211.

Please note that this info is provided on an OOC basis. You may use it to @emit NPCs or with your characters only if they have a good IC reason to know it. If you have any question about whether a character would have heard something or not, please contact Tsye or Sethos.

Rules

Suggested Reading

If you aren't already familiar with RP Etiquette (And even if you are) I always suggest people read: Thranduil Graywolf's Guide to Roleplay Etiquette

Other

Aside from that, I can't state enough the importance of you, the player, contacting myself (Sethos) or Tsye about actions you would like to partake in over the course of the Epiphyte plot. If you would like to set up a base or some such as a central location for operations, it would be best that you contact either of us so we can include such in the plot and make sure everything is kosher.

Recent Events

  • The 7W has been occasionally moving supplies using a temporary landing strip constructed a safe distance outside the city.
  • Since about the 8th of October, Sethos' robots have stopped most of their activities (such as building) outside of their main directives of maintaining security. The cause of this has not yet become public knowledge.
  • Despite rebel actions, the robots seem almost as numerous as ever, with some two hundred patrolling the streets of Epiphyte and responding in kind to any violence against them.
  • On October 29, three workers at the Epiphyte clinic were shot. On the same day, a small ship landed on and took off from the helipad of the clinic (despite the 7W's statements about blockading air and space travel). The cause of these has not yet become public knowledge.

The Robots

The average combat model robot (Hereafter referred to as 'Shells') is an average 2 meters in height. Their chassis is black and simple, composed of an average body with somewhat lithe limbs. Each joint is capable of more range of motion than the average recom. A cylindrical canister about the size of a Pringles can makes up the bulk of their head, with the middle being taken up with two sets of eyes that can freely rotate independent of each other.

Hardware

Each hardware platform (android) comes equipped with a lot of redundant hardware, attributing to the difficulty in disabling them. Your average hardware platform will contain fifty isolated concurrent processing platforms, two wireless receivers, three batteries, two IR lights, two IR receivers, an ultrasound beacon, and four optical receivers that also contain thermal sight capabilities (and low light vision). In addition to that generic hardware, an android will also come equipped one primary and one secondary weapon (one per arm).

Dead Man's Switch

When a hardware platform is disabled (either locally or by the network) or loses power, all memory cores will be completely wiped. This is not a function that specifically has to be triggered as all memory is volatile. If an android regains power and is accepted back into the neural network, it will be reprogrammed by the network.

Memory Cores

Each of the fifty processing units hold a specific portion of one large 'kernel' or software package that allows the neural network to communicate with the hardware controllers. (In effect, this means that the 'operating system' of the hardware platform is divided amongst these fifty processing units). The memory cores are able to assemble this data meaningfully and can continue to function up until a 66% corruption rate. (if 34% of the processing cores are damaged, there is a loss of functionality with the hardware platform). The gain being that if these cores are damaged or shut off, none of the 'operating system' can be retrieved.

In addition, each of the fifty processing cores work independently of each other and hold what could be considered a minimalistic and simplistic 'AI' routine. It's these concurrent AIs that build the basis of the neural consensus network.

AI

Neural Network

The shell neural network is the wireless connection with which all shells are connected to via their hardware platforms. It is currently composed of n*50+200 artificial intelligences (where n is the the surviving shells). The neural network could also be called the consensus network, as every action that the shells decide to do must be decided upon via the neural network. In this way it could be considered that the invading android army is not many units, but a single hive-minded entity connected via a cloud network.

Behaviour

The robots will defend themselves against any attack.

Coalition

Hagalaz the wiz on the Coalition's control of air and space traffic two and from Epiphyte:

I don't think they're actively stopping organics trying to get out. And I don't think they're really stopping people from getting in. They're just really, really, really, really, really strongly advising against people giving the robots more human shields. As long as he isn't smuggling in 'technical assistance' for the robots… I think that was all we were trying to stop. By ordering a ship to heave to for inspection, putting a shitload of marines aboard, and inspecting it. and firing into the hull of anyone stupid enough to not stop.

Now, 7W may be running things a bit differently. [Their] attitude was “nothing gets through period. screw 'humanitarian aid'

“So what you are saying is that 7W is in charge of shooting stuff down that flies into Epiphyte, not the coalition?”

Officially, the Coalition's policy in this particular situation is one of containment. as long as it isn't something that can haul a buttload of cargo, I don't think they'd care. http://www.furscape.com/doku.php/news_2211_09_11?s[]=blockade

Seventh Wave

However, the 7W has been blocking space and air travel to the best of their limited abilities since the incident at the spaceport on the eleventh of September. Combined with bandits outside the city and those refugees who choose to camp nearby rather than flee for other parts of Lopanga, the 7W blockade has severely isolated the city.

Sethos

The Sethos forces, for their part, have always claimed that they are not restricting travel at all. They do, however, conduct inspections.
